Who gets a computer?

All students at Joseph City Schools in grades 3 through 12.

What will my student get?

A Chromebook laptop computer. We also have hotspot devices with wireless Internet for households that don’t have a broadband connection or, whose broadband connection is too slow to handle your student’s Internet needs.

Do I have to pay for this?

No. The school pays 100% of the cost of the Chromebooks, hotspots, and wireless Internet service with funds received from a federal grant. There is no cost to you.

Is Internet access restricted to “kid-friendly” sites?

Internet access is filtered for anyone using a school Chromebook or a school wireless hotspot, whether they are a student or not. All internet use is routed through the same filters used at school. It doesn’t matter where the user is located or whether they are using their own device or a school device.

Does my student have to bring their Chromebook to school every day?

No. Other Chromebooks will be available for your student to use at school. They can keep the Chromebook at home all year long and return it at the end of the school year.

What if my student’s equipment is lost or damaged?

We don’t want you to feel reluctant to check out a Chromebook for your student because you don’t want to pay for a lost or damaged device. We do want to make this technology available to all our students all the time. We also hope this will be an opportunity for students to practice being respectful of this privilege and responsible for equipment they are entrusted with. If the loss is clearly accidental, we’ll cover the cost. If the loss was due to the student’s misbehavior, they may lose the privilege of using the device.

How do I get a device for my student?

You can click on the “Technology Checkout Use Agreement” bar below and print it yourself. Fill out and sign the form. You or your student can bring the signed agreement to the Library at either campus. Your signed agreement will give us permission to check out a device to your student. This will include a Chromebook with a power cord and case, and a wireless hotspot, if needed. We’ll also include simple instructions for setting up and using the equipment.

What if something goes wrong with the equipment or it doesn’t work?
