There are times when things don't workout as expected. When doing a lab, make sure you know how to use your equipment. When students realized, on Thursday, that they didn't know how to use their hot plates, their lab was moved to Monday so they had time to look up how to use their equipment. Are there failures in the lab? No, there are learning opportunities. Take every opportunity to learn. Learn from other peoples mistakes and learn from your own mistakes. A lab about temperature and solubility can teach more than what is in the lab packet - life lessons can be learned. Hands-on experiences are more than their face value.

Thanks to donation, Biology was able to explore a GREAT entomology collection. Students picked an insect and by using clues from the appearance of their insect, are hypothesizing about their habitats and adaptations they have.

A big thank you to our maintenance department and Blake Miller for putting new sinks in where sinks used to be years ago. This will allow for easier lab clean up and lab independence for our Chemistry students. Some students from years ago might recognize the old safety posters that were on the ceiling beam in the 70's, 80's, 90's and early 2000's.

The begin the year, Chemistry students must demonstrate safe laboratory techniques using baking soda, vinegar, and food coloring. They must also demonstrate how to light a Bunsen burner and how to properly measure and weigh. They review the Material Safety Data Sheets for all chemicals involved in a lab to know of proper clean up and disposal of the used chemicals as well as the safety precautions. When they pass these skills, they are then cleared to perform labs the rest of the year. Labs will gradually increase in needed skill as the year progresses.

These items were placed under glass in Mrs. Bushman's classroom in the fall of 2020: Notice the McDonalds Cheeseburger looks like it is new - placed under glass in Aug 2020. The Cheeseburger that is covered in yeast is an Esther's Cheeseburger - placed under glass the same day as the McDonalds cheeseburger. The apple had a bite taken out of it and placed under glass in Oct 2020. The Breakfast pizza had a bite taken out of it and was placed under glass in Oct 2020 - still looks new. The glass has not been opened since the items were put under glass. This is a great long term experiment that will stay in Mrs. Bushman's classroom until she retires. Hmmm - what's in the food that you eat?

Good morning football families, it’s time to gear up for our football camp. We are looking for help and donations of time and food. Any snacks, drinks, or help with purchasing and preparing meals for the boys is greatly appreciated. Please reach out to me directly. Anything is appreciated, even if it is just a box of granola bars or a case of water/Gatorade, I’d like to keep these boys well fed. The dates for the camp are July 24thĀ through July 27th. We want the boys to eat dinner at home and arrive on July 24thĀ by 6:00 pm. We will handle all meals after they arrive. Camp concludes on the 27thĀ at 6:00 pm. At that time all parents are invited to eat dinner with us, and this will be our parent meeting to start the season. You will have the opportunity to meet the coaching staff and we will go over the expectations, program goals, and answer any questions. Ā  The boys will be sleeping at the school which means they need to pack all their toiletries, clothing, and bedding for that time. If they want an air mattress or other comforts, they need to provide that for themselves. If they have any special circumstances like medications or dietary needs, please reach out directly. Two important reminders: First, the boys need a NEW PHYSICAL. They may attend camp without a new physical but will not be allowed to participate in the new season until they have obtained their blue card from the school. Our first practice of the new season is on July 29thĀ at 4:00 pm. We need all boys ready to participate on that date so we can get their required practices completed in order to issue their equipment. Every day delayed is a day they cannot get in their pads. Second, we will scrimmage Hopi on August 13th. All boys must have their required practices completed in order to participate in that scrimmage. Thank you everyone! We are excited to get this season underway! -Coach Roes-
