CPR is a skill that everyone should be able to do, the A&P students also understand the physiology behind what is going on with the heart and lungs during CPR.

JCHS sent 4 teams of students to EA STEM Day at Eastern Arizona College recently.
Out of the 4 teams, all 4 placed.!
* Briana Warner, Iris Powers, & Caleb Case took 3rd in the Biology competition.
* Peyton Bushman, Justin Gardner, Lucy Hancock, and Benson Moss took 3rd in the Chemistry competition.
* Emma Faulkner, Rosemary Fischer, Kylie Hansen, and Michael Ross took 2nd in the Chemistry competition.
* Chiara Musichini, Kase Fish, Kathleen Gardner, and Kayden Gardner took 1st in Earth and Space. For getting first place, they were each awarded a 2 year tuition scholarship if they choose a STEM field at EA worth $24,000.
The A&P students also went down for a special audience with Tammy Gillespie, the EA Anatomy & Physiology professor, to learn from her with their cadaver.

Students chose a chemical to test and then used litmus papers, a Universal strip indicator, and an electronic reader.
They also used cabbage water and 10 other indicators that indicate specific pH ranges.
Who doesn't love colors?!?!

Biology was able to test the food that they brought to school.
There were some interesting foods brought . . . a can of tuna with a can opener (so glad one was brought . . . can openers are not usually found in a chemistry lab.

Yes, we created a rainbow from diluted hydrochloric acid, lemon juice, vinegar, tap water, distilled water, sugar, salt, hand soap, baking soda, ivory soap, bleach, Borax, wood ash, laundry detergent, dish washer detergent, and drain cleaner.

A big thank you to Invenergy for their generous donation that made it happen. Support from businesses and community members like this makes a real difference for our students and programs.

Students now know how to stop bleeding through the use of tourniquets, direct pressure, and packing.
Knowing how to Stop the Bleed is a basic life saving skill.

We had some purples and greys and teals, but it was fun to watch the colors changing today.
